Announcing The National Women's Lobby

U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce™ launches Power of Influence campaign

Preeminent national women's chamber forms the National Women's Lobby™ to increase women's influence in political affairs

The U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce™ has announced a powerful new national program that launches the most influential voice for women in America. The Power of Influence campaign includes the creation of the National Women's Lobby™ – which gives a unified voice to the hundreds of organizations representing women in America.

The National Women's Lobby establishes an ongoing virtual and live system that brings together women leaders from across the United States to discuss and create a strong, unified voice on key issues affecting women. Organizations small and large will work together to understand issues, discuss strategies and opinions, and select issues where a unified stance may be created and shared. These viewpoints will be strongly advanced through regular communication with political leaders and the community at large.

"Today's technology allows us to reach quickly and deeply to the leaders and communities of women who are ready to work as one on broad political issues like small business growth, health care, education and opportunity," says Margot Dorfman, CEO of the USWCC. "The U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce is proud to support the growing, powerful voice of women in the political process by implementing the National Women's Lobby to capture the strength of women's organizations in America."

Membership in the National Women's Lobby™ -- a division of the USWCC -- will include women's organizations, the women's sections of mixed organizations, individual supporting members, and foundations and businesses that support building women's influence in political affairs and public policy.

"We've been looking for ways to include other organizations in our efforts to achieve proportionate economic and leadership opportunities for women," Dorfman says. "Establishing the National Women's Lobby enables us to form partnerships with established organizations, offer members of these groups a new and value-added USWCC association membership, and build the scale it requires to raise the influence of women in the marketplace."

Only the broadest issues earning a two-thirds majority vote of the members of the NWL will be advanced. And, member organizations of the lobby may choose to opt in or out of support for certain issues and campaigns without jeopardizing their membership in the NWL. This minimalist platform makes it possible for a large number of very different organizations to participate.

The U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce will use a revolutionary system of Internet-based conferencing, online polling and interaction to bring the women leaders of America together in a process of education, issue selection and position advancement. Each month the National Women's Lobby Agenda will be distributed to key influencers and elected officials to advance the positions of the lobby. And, NWL leaders will meet with local and national political leaders to convey the NWL viewpoint.

"Never before has a major national organization brought together the women leaders of America in such a strong and unified voice. The Power of Influence campaign capitalizes on the community-wide opportunities created by our new virtual world to elevate the voice of women to new levels," Dorfman adds.
